چکیده

Colour is a key element in the discrimination and matching of textile fibres for forensic purposes. Two aspects of research aimed at developing an autcmated forensic textile fibre matching system by colour computer vision are outlined. The segnentation procedure is described. It is based on a mult{resolution image format and incorporates progressive plan refinement. Filters for building the milt {resolution image are compared and reconwendations made as to when they might be useful. The use of colour, as it relates to this application, is formulated in terms of classical pattern recognition. The colour space clusters associated with textile fibre classes are described and a suitable clustering scheme is presented.

Damage caused to fibres by vapour cloud explosions.

Research on the very specific damage to single textile fibres caused by vapour cloud explosions is presented. Vapour cloud explosion experiments were carried out using a selection of 41 garments differing in colour, fibre composition and textile construction. Fibres subjected to a vapour cloud explosion become wider at the end, often taking the form of a ball, bulb or shovel, while the morpholo...

Physical Damage to Textiles

ANY MATERIAL COMPOSED OF FIBRES IS A TEXTILE, AND THIS DEFINITION covers an extremely wide range of products in everyday use. Worldwide, over 35 million tonnes of textile fibre is consumed annually, ending up not only as clothing, upholstery, bed linen and carpets, but also in such items as ropes, seat belts, nets, road stabilisation mats, drainage pipes and tents. It is not surprising that, wh...

Local Derivative Pattern with Smart Thresholding: Local Composition Derivative Pattern for Palmprint Matching

Palmprint recognition is a new biometrics system based on physiological characteristics of the palmprint, which includes rich, stable, and unique features such as lines, points, and texture. Texture is one of the most important features extracted from low resolution images. In this paper, a new local descriptor, Local Composition Derivative Pattern (LCDP) is proposed to extract smartly stronger...

Malaysian Car Number Plate Detection System Based on Template Matching and Colour Information

This paper presents a method for Malaysian car number plate detection system. This method utilizes template matching technique to approximate the location of the number plate region. Using the output from this template matching technique, colour information is used to eliminate the unwanted colour areas from the approximate number plate region without affecting the correct colour regions. Hence...

Investigation into the Dyeing of Soybean Fibres with Natural Dyes and their antimicrobial properties

The dyeing behaviour of annually renewable soybean protein fibres with Madder, Weld and Walnut seed husk, natural dyes, were investigated and their possible antimicrobial effects were evaluated. The results obtained from the dyeing of the Madder on the soybean fabric were compared with those on a wool fabric. It was shown that the amount of the amino acid content of the fibre has a great effect...
